Potential 2017 top ten NFL Draft pick Cam Robinson has been arrested in Louisiana. Robinson was charged with carrying a weapon in the presence of narcotics and possession of stolen firearms. This is a major setback for the first team SEC tackle who was set to have have a big year and cash in with a big NFL contract next spring.
Robinson was arrested with backup defensive back Laurence “Hootie” Jones after local police smelled marijuana coming from their parked car in a park early Tuesday morning.
Alabama head coach Nick Saban issued a statement earlier today,
“We are aware of the situation involving Hootie Jones and Cam Robinson and are in the process of gathering facts to determine what internal action needs to be taken.”
Robinson and Jones both made bail and are out on bond. Their court date has not been announced.
It will be interesting to see how Alabama handles this. With a young team returning next year Saban was counting on Robinson to be a big contributor and needed him to help his two sophomore running backs Bo Scarbrough and Damien Harris who will attempt to fill Derrick Henry’s very large shoes in 2016. Robinson at the very least will be suspended for a few games and depending on how the investigation shakes out he could be kicked out of school, but that is a worst case scenario.
