The NFL Combine in Indianapolis was getting all the hype this week but there was another Combine going on in Baltimore. Last week the NFL Regional Combine was in Arizona and this week they stopped in Baltimore so NFL scouts could look at prospects from smaller schools and Canada who may have been overlooked.

Last season there were approximately a dozen players from the Regional Combines on NFL rosters. About a dozen more are on NFL practice squads. Even if you aren’t invited to Indy you still have a shot to make it to the league through the smaller Regional Combines.

There were some notable players this year in Baltimore. Cornell captains, JJ Fives and Rush Imhotep, Kasas offensive lineman Keyon Haughton, Navy cornerback Quincy Adams, North Carolina DB Malik Simmons, and Wake Forest corner Zachary Dancel

Receiver, Anthony Kelly from Kutztown had the fastest 40 yard dash at the Regional Combine yesterday with a 4.40. Had he been at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis he would’ve been third overall. His 41 inch vertical leap would’ve put him in a three way tie for first place.

Another Kutztown product, running back Terry Williams ran the 40 in 4.43. William would’ve tied for fourth in Indy with that time. Williams set the Golden Bears record for longest run from scrimmage last October with a 98 yard touchdown run against East Stroudsburg.

One QB who was looking to catch scout’s attention was Harvard’s Scott Hosch. Hosch set the team’s single season passing record last year and was 15-1 as starter. He had the best 40 time among all the QBs in Baltimore with a 4.75. Had he been at the NFL Combine that time would’ve been good enough for second best. Hosch is thought to be an undrafted free agent and with his performance he could’ve put himself on some team’s radars.

Tight End Daree Goodwin from West Liberty State blistered the field in the 40 with a 4.65 time. He would’ve finishes second in Indy just .01 second off of first. Goodwin was a big part of the Hilltoppers offense and in September had a game with 115 yards receiving with 3 touchdowns. At 6’5, 231 pounds Goodwin is a monster who could find his way on an NFL squad this summer trying to make the roster.
