Braxton Miller is turning heads at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, AL this week. The former Ohio State quarterback/wide receiver has caught the eyes of NFL scounts and GMs attending the practices the past two days with his speed and ability to create separation from defenders. It’s not hurting his cause either that he’s making some amazing catches when Carson Wentz is throwing the ball. Wentz is the top QB in Mobile and he has every scout’s attention when he throws.
Miller was thought to be a second or third round pick coming into the Senior Bowl. He’s very intriguing since he played QB then converted to receiver in his final year for the Buckeyes. Miller had flashes last year of showing what he could do as a receiver but after showing out against Virginia Tech in week 1 he got lost in the shuffle behind Michael Thomas who will likely go in the first round.
Miller has run the 40 in 4.32. Scouts have been blow away at his speed and were surprised that he can run routes as well as he has so far during the Senior Bowl practices. The former Buckeye has been media friendly and has talked to a lot of people about different teams. Miller told ESPN that he wouldn’t mind playing with Atlanta so he could play with Julio Jones. He also told an Indianapolis reporter that if the Colts wanted a playmaker he would love to be a Colt and play with Andrew Luck.
Jason Garrett and the Cowboys coaching staff will be working with Miller all week and will get the best look at him. If Miller can impress them Dallas could draft him in the second round when they pick at #35 if he is still available. Imagine Jerry Jones drafting Jared Goff or Carson Wentz in the first round and then picking Braxton Miller in the second. Cowboys fans would be ecstatic about their future on offense.
Browns new head coach Hue Jackson was blown away by Miller’s ability at yesterday’s practice. Miller won’t be going with the second overall pick to Cleveland but he will be there when they pick first in the second round. Coming out of Ohio State Miller would be a popular pick for the Browns if they decided to snag him. Like Dallas, Cleveland will probably go QB in the first round. Snagging a speedy receiver from Ohio State to go with a new quarterback could go a long way in keeping some jaded Browns fans from having doubts about the future.
There is still a lot that will have to play out with the Combine and workouts with teams but Miller is already climbing up the draft boards with the impression he’s making in Mobile. It will be interesting to see where he winds up.
