Notre Dame quarterback DeShone Kizer announced on Twitter earlier today that he is leaving South Bend to go to the NFL in next spring’s draft.

Kizer is thought to be an early to mid-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. The Browns or 49ers will likely be picking first but we won’t know the full draft order until after the Super Bowl. We will get a pretty good picture of it once the regular season ends in early January.

Right now there are three QBs who are thought to be the cream of the crop of the class. North Carolina QB Mitch Trubisky, Clemson QB DeShaun Watson and Kizer will likely be first round picks although draft-niks are all over the board on where they will land. Trubisky has yet to announce that he is leaving the Tarheels but many experts expect him to go pro.

The draft is stocked with defense and it’s thought that Texas A&M Myles Garrett will be the first pick overall. After that any one of the three QBs could be chosen at #2. But if the 2017 draft is anything like 2016 we could see someone make a trade to get to the top of the draft to get a QB. Last year the Rams gave up the farm to get Jared Goff at #1. The Eagles did the same thing to grab Carson Wentz at #2.

Kizer threw for 2925 yards and 26 touchdowns with only nine interceptions. He also ran for 8 TDs. His numbers could’ve been better but this was a down year for Notre Dame football as the program is in rebuilding mode.

The Combine invitations haven’t been sent out yet but Kizer is all but a lock to go to Indianapolis to show his stuff for NFL scouts and GM. You know the Cleveland Browns and San Fransisco 49ers will be paying attention.
