Carson Wentz is a popular guy. Last week he met with several teams and now it’s coming out that he had interviews with the Eagles. One meeting was on Tuesday and the other was Wednesday night that included head coach Doug Pederson.
Pederson really liked what he saw.
“I like him. He’s got great size. Good mobility. Strong kid. Good arm. It’ll be interesting to sit down with him and see where he is at mentally. By the eye, talented kid that looks like he can play in this league.”
Everyone at the Senior Bowl seemed to be impressed with Wentz during the week. His numbers weren’t great in the actual game due to some drops by North receivers after being hit in the hands with the ball. The North Dakota QB was 6 of 10 passing for 50 yards and 0 touchdowns in the Senior Bowl. Wenzt was overshadowed by Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott who had a better game and was named the Most Outstanding Player.
The Eagles pick at #13 in the first round. Wentz may or may not be there depending on how fast Jared Goff and Paxton Lynch come off the board. Some scouts are saying that Wentz has moved into the top ten or maybe even the top five. But with the Combine coming up in a few weeks Paxton Lynch or Christian Hackenburg could have a great showing and become flavor of the month in the eyes of the NFL scouts and jump into the top five.
Philadelphia needs help at the QB position. Sam Bradford is a free agent and may not be brought back. He had a pretty bad year and couldn’t shake the injury bug. Mark Sanchez is a band-aid and will be a back up for the rest of his career. If Wentz is drafted by the Eagles there is a pretty good chance he will get thrown to the wolves in his rookie season. Bradford might be re-signed if that’s the direction they go to give Wentz some time to develop.
With Chip Kelly out of Philly and Doug Pederson now running the show changes are coming. Wentz could be the guy to build the Eagles’ offense around for year to come.
