The pick is in and after much contemplation, the 13th selection is…Laremy Tunsil! It was a shocker for the Dolphins as they watched Ezekiel Elliot and Vernon Hargreaves come off the board before 13. After that happened the direction was unclear. Myles Jack was too much of a risk and the rest of the corners were too premature to be selected that high. So the drop of Laremy Tunsil was a blessing in disguise for the Dolphins. For a line that let Ryan Tannehill get sacked 45 times last year, Tunsil will be an immediate help.
Now the reason he dropped so low was because of a picture tweeted out from his account of him smoking through a bong. You can read more on that here. The story is that his account was hacked by his step-father and it was taken a long time ago. The dolphins must hope that this is the case and he will learn from this mistake. Otherwise it is a very risky move as the Dolphins know about first round picks with drug issues. In 2013 the Phins traded up for Dion Jordan who was suspended all of last year for a failed drug test. This was no doubt a tough decision for Miami to make, but I wrote in my previous article that the Dolphins would have to be willing to take a leap of faith and this was it. Dolphins GM knew this and had this to say about the pick (via Omar Kelly, Sun-Sentinel)
"We weren't expecting this….This is an opportunity we had to take," Dolphins Gm Chris Grier said of taking Laremy Tunsil.

With Elliott and Hargreaves coming off the board you had to stick with drafting the best player available and they did so. Tunsil could slide into the LT position and have Albert move to LG or vice versa. I have a good feeling that this pick will pay off for the Dolphins and they look to be off to a strong start to the draft. The dolphins will look to address more pressing needs on day 2 of the draft and keep it locked here for more coverage on rounds 2 an 3.
My Grade for pick #13: B+
