Last night Titans GM Jon Robinson wasn’t done wheeling and dealing after trading back to #15 in the first round after a trade with the Rams two weeks ago. Tennessee jumped up to #8 trading with Cleveland to draft Michigan State OT Jack Conklin.
A month ago Laremy Tunsil was thought to be the top pick but once the Titans traded back and a video of him smoking weed appeared on Twitter minutes before the draft the Ole Miss tackle went tumbling down draft boards.
With Tunsil in free fall the Titans still decided to trade up to pick Conklin since they needed to upgrade their offensive line. It’s been reported that the Giants wanted him at #10 which prompted Tennessee to pull the trigger on the trade. Tunsil slipped to #13 to Miami. Had the Titans held at #15 they could’ve had Ohio State tackle Taylor Decker.
To move up in the draft Tennessee had to give up their first round pick this year, #15, a third round pick this year, #76 and a second round selection in 2016. The Titans did have an extra third round pick this year so giving away one wasn’t a big deal. Losing a second round pick next year will hurt but at least they have an extra first rounder they picked up from the Rams when they moved up to #1.
I think the Titans reached for Conklin and they could’ve addressed their problems at corner with Vernon Hargreaves or Eli Apple. The Titans have three second round picks to use tonight to try to make it up to me but as of now I give the Conklin pick a C.
