The Titans will have the #1 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft after losing in Indianapolis, 30-24 this afternoon. Tennessee finishes 3-13 on the year and just beats out the Browns who had the same record. The Titans lost to the Browns in week 2 back in September and that gives them the tie-breaker and the first pick in the draft.

The Titans have a lot of needs but an emphasis will likely be on the offensive line and secondary in the draft and free agency. Last year Tennessee picked Marcus Mariota second overall and he showed flashes this season but was hampered by injuries because opposing teams had little trouble getting to him. Laremy Tunsil from Ole Miss is thought to be the premier offensive lineman and could be the first pick overall.

Jalen Ramsey from Florida State is the best corner in the draft and could also be someone the Titans consider taking #1 overall. Ramsey grew up outside of Nashville and would be popular among the fan base. Tennessee’s secondary has been horrible all year and seemed to get worse down the stretch. Last month Ryan Fitzpatrick lit up the Titans for three touchdowns in a lackluster effort on the road. The following week Tom Brady had his way with the defense as well.

Another option the Titans have is to trade the pick. Tennessee has so many needs that picking up more picks by trading back is a legitimate option. With Jared Goff emerging as the #1 quarterback available someone who is picking in the top ten could make a play to jump up to the top spot and give up their first round pick as well as other picks this year and next year. The Titans could stay in the top ten to get a playmaker while at the same time racking up other picks to stockpile the roster with new talent.

Tennessee is expected to get rid of interim coach Mike Mularkey and GM Ruston Webster tonight or tomorrow. With the #1 pick and Mariota under center the team could attract a decent head coach.

There is a lot of time between now and the draft in April. Players stock will climb and fall up until then. It’s an exciting time for Titan fans. They didn’t have much to cheer for this year but now they finally have something to look forward to.
