When you think of all the talented Tennessee underclassmen the Vols had this year who were considering pro Marquez North was not at the top of the list. North battled injuries in his three year on Rocky Top and never really got a chance to show what he was capable of. Regardless, North has decided to not enroll in Spring classes and will enter the 2016 NFL Draft.

North looked like a future draft pick as a freshman lighting up South Carolina for 102 yards on just 3 catches. The talented Vol receiver was named Freshmen All-SEC and Freshman All-American but couldn’t get things going as a sophomore or junior.

In his last two years in Knoxville North only caught 36 passes and missed multiple games due to injuries. Butch Jones’ offense will likely be a more running oriented attack with Jalen Hurd and Alvin Kamara pounding the rock. Maybe North saw that he wouldn’t be a big part of the offense with Josh Malone, Jauan Jennings, Josh Smith and Preston Williams surpassing him on the depth chart at receiver. The Vols have a lot of weapons and perhaps he saw the writing on the wall.

North has a ton of potential but has to shake the knock of being injury-prone. If he does get picked in the Draft it will likely be on the last day. His best option would be to sign as an undrafted free agent with a team that is thin at receiver. A team like the Titans might give him a shot since they need help at receiver. Having played in Knoxville might help get the fans around him too.
